Week 15- Two Weeks Left to Decide Our Champion

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Dec 13 2008, 01:18 AM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

With two weeks remaining in all fantasy seasons, whether it be the WCOFF formats or local league semi final/final weeks..decisions are for the most part limited..Of course you have the Pierre Thomas/Reggie Bush debate that backfired for many Thursday Night, but at this point, you pretty much need to ride the horses that got you here. The below players are guys that may have been in and out of your lineup this year and could be used as high upside plays in the one in done contest.

QB-Jake Delhomme- The Panthers have been running the ball with tremendous success more or less the whole year but in the last few weeks they've been virtually unstoppable. And the Broncos struggle vs. the run. This may be a week where the Broncos put 8-9 men in the box and allow superman Steve Smith to face 1-1 coverage too often. Delhomme may be able to pass at will to Smith and Mush.

RB- Derrick Ward and MJD--Both of these guys are must starts, and potentially could be two of the higher scoring backs this week. Both will be THE MAN with their RBBC partners out.

WR- Torry Holt- I cannot believe I'm saying anything positive about Holt after the brutal year he had as a late 2nd round pick but I have a feeling he has a huge game this week. In fairness to him, the team has been terrible around him. Against Seattle, the Rams may actually be able to control the game with Jackson and Holt.

TE-LJ Smith-Not sure if I was the only one who noticed this but LJ Smith looked like a man posessed vs. the Giants..He didn't have a huge stat day but when he caught the ball he was looking to run people over. Look for McNabb to reward him with some redzone looks this week.

DF-The Colts Jets and Eagles look to be the best defensive options this week.

Week 14 Start Em Sit Ems- Abridged Version

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Dec 6 2008, 09:46 AM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

What a week. I had a quicker reminder of what it was like to compete in fantasy football back in the early 90s. On Wednesday, my computer blew up completely eliminating any access to the internet world for two days. When was the last time you solely relied on ESPN for fantasy/football coverage? Wow wow wow!! Fortunately, I am now back online and was able to catch up on all the missed practices and storylines from Wednesday and Thursday. But being blind to the football world for two days really gave me time to reflect on how much the game has changed because of technology. Quite simply, you cannot compete in fantasy football on any level without it.

Other than Rivers, Vincent Jackson, Sproles and Zach Miller, not much happened Thursday Night. If you had Miller, he was a must start given the Chargers issues with stopping opposing TEs. With that said, some start em sit em selections for this week will be in list form, with limited commentary. At this point in the season, weather becomes increasingly more important. If faced with tough decisions, I'll often default to players in domes vs. players potentially dealing with cold, wind and snow. There is snow possible in Chicago and Pittsburgh so keep that in mind when setting your line-ups.

Start Em
QB- A lot of the top tier QBs should have huge weeks, Favre, Cutler, Warner etc but check out Kyle Orton and Roethlislerger this week. Both face defenses that are vulnerable to the pass. The Jags have thrown in the towel and the Cowboys pass D is overrated, so look for big things from Orton and Big Ben.
Sit Em
QB- Romo, McNabb. Campbell, Manning-ALL NFC East QBs. Romo will struggle in Pitt and McNabb will revert back to his former self after lighting up the Cardinals on Thanksgiving.

Start Em
RB- Peterson may go for 300 yards this week. Love the combos of Bush/Thomas, Hillis/Young, Jones/Washington and Jacobs/Ward- I'm still leery of Young since this is his 1st week back but all other three back-ups are nice upside starts this week. Thomas/Washington/Ward
Sit Em
RB- Clinton Portis.

Start Em
WR- Bowe, Holmes
Sit Em
WR- DeSean Jackson, Santana Moss

Start Em
TE- Heath Miller
Sit Em
TE- Cooley. Cooley may catch a half dozen passes but I think they will be short routes vs. the Ravens..I think 10 pts is his ceiling this week.

Start Em
DF- Arizona
Sit Em
DF- Dallas

Thanksgiving Week Start Em Sit Ems (Week 13)

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Nov 27 2008, 01:54 AM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Week 13 is here which means two things....It's Thanksgiving Week meaning early week prep is needed and it also means the Fantasy playoffs are here. Thursday kicks off with three games. Tennessee visits winless Detroit. Tennessee should have their way with the Lions but look for Calvin Johnson to show the world just how great he is. In his 2nd year, he's proven to be one of the top performers in the league. Dallas should blow out Seattle and keep TO happy. The late game and best match-up of the day has Arizona (led by the fantasy bunch of Warner Fitz and my year to date fantasy MVP Boldin) facing an Eagle team that's struggled of late. The Eagles should be fired up at home but if they put up a clunker, it's gonna get ugly out there.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and with that said, here's an early week look at start em sit ems for week 13.

QB
Start Ems-
Trent Edwards- Edwards is still on many peoples 'you know what' list after not targeting Lee Evans once a few monday's ago. But the Bills put up a 50 spot last week and face a 49er team that cannot stop the pass. In a must win game, Edwards should put up a 20 spot.

Sit Ems-
Matt Cassel- With two 400 yard games in a row and Moss/Welker at his disposal, people are starting to buy the hype. Even as a Jet fan, I'm impressed with the Pats fight this year but Cassel is not good enough to face a tough defense like the Steelers and excel. He will struggle this week, even at home.

RB
Start Ems-
Warrick Dunn- Going to ride Dunn two straight weeks here. He looked great last week and perhaps his freshness can be attributed to his light load the first half of the year. The Bucs will need to score points to keep up with the high flying Saints so look for Dunn to catch a lot of passes again this week.

Sit Ems-
Tim Hightower- Even though Hightower continues to find the endzone (2 last week) he hasn't been able to get much traction between the 20s. On the road in a hostile environment spells trouble for the Zona running game. Honorable mention...Turner and Portis--nobody in their right mind would bench these guys but this could be the week they both struggle, so neither is a strong One And Done option.

WR
Start Ems-
Michael Jenkins/Ted Ginn- Both are interesting WR3/4 options this week. I continue to like matchups that face the Chargers weak secondary. With White getting the attention of Antonio Cromartie, Jenkins may get some increased looks. Haven't been high on Ginn Jr but with Camarillo shut down for the year, and facing the Rams, Ginn could have a nice game.

Sit Ems-
Dwayne Bowe- Say what you want about the Raiders but they do a nice job vs. their opponents #1 WR threat. They still need to rid themselves of Al Davis before they can compete again but they occasionally put up a big game.

TE
Start Ems-
Antonio Gates- Again, as alluded to last week, very tough to think outside the box at TE but Gates may have more upside this week than some of the other big TE's like Cooley and Witten. Gates had only 4 targets last week may be the focus of the Chargers passing game this week. Plus the Falcs struggle against TEs.

Sit Ems-
Kellen Winslow- I guess start him if you have no other reliable option but he's been such a disappointment this year other than a few big games. I wouldn't expect him to do much with Anderson back running the show.

Def-
Start Ems-
Tennessee- They play the Lions on national TV. Turkey and fantasy points...what more can you ask for? Just be prepared to see Calvin Johnson light you up a few times.

Sit Ems-
Tampa- They are not playing the Lions, like they did last week. Brees is in great form and it's hard to see him making too many mistakes.

LCG Week 12- Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Nov 20 2008, 01:32 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

For many a fantasy fan, this is the most exciting week of the year. Eleven stressful yet fun-filled weeks culminate with a chance at winning a WCOFF League Championship and moving on for a shot at 300k. It doesn't get any better than that. Of the four LCGs I've been in, I won the two I thought I'd lose and lost the two I thought I'd win. So with that said..anything can and will happen this week. For those of us out of contention in the Main Event, we have our WCOOFF leagues to focus on as well as week 1of 5 in the One and Done Contest. So while there is no more waiver wire activity, there is lots of work to do in terms of setting optimal line-ups in the various WCOFF games.

Good luck to everyone in their LCGs this weekend. The general rule of thumb in these games is to go with what got you here. Don't try to over think various match-ups and bench your stronger players for risky players. But for those of you that lack a line-up of studs, or have some tough decisions, here are a few players that could surprise on the upside/downside this week.

QB
Start Ems-
Eli Manning- Eli has been a frequent sit em candidate of mine throughout the year however this week he may find himself in a shootout vs. Arizona. With Jacobs hobbled, Derrick Ward may be on the field more often, which will lead to more passing sets. Burress has also been quiet as of late so look for Manning to spread the ball around all day in this expected track meet.

Sit Ems-
Donovan McNabb- By now McNabb knows that he will not get a 6th quarter to pass the ball if it comes to that. You may as well give him 10 quarters. It wont matter this week. This should be a very low scoring game with relatively low fantasy stats. Tough to bench a player with impressive year to date stats but if you have other QB options in your LCG, look elsewhere.

RB
Start Ems-
Warrick Dunn- If Dunn was 100% and didn't have a nagging back injury, he would be a slam dunk must start. He is the #1 option and is facing the lowly Lions that cannot stop the run. Look for Dunn to be a very nice start and potentially have 20+ points if he can last the game.

Sit Ems-
LenDale White- I'm going to leave LenDale here another week. The Jets are tough between the tackles so the Titans may look to Chris Johnson moreso than White this week.

WR
Start Ems-
Anthony Gonzalez- Gonzalez has had two quiet weeks in a row but look for him to get healthy vs. the Chargers this week. Even with a bit of a nagging hamstring, he should find holes in the Chargers secondary that struggles vs. their opponents 3rd and 4th options.

Sit Ems-
Laveranues Coles- Coles has seen a decreased role in recent weeks as Keller, Jones and Cotchery have been the focus. The Titans are strong vs. the pass so expect Coles to be contained.

TE
Start Ems-
Sit Ems-
No real sleepers or surprise bench candidates at TE at this point in the season.

Def-
Start Ems-
TB, Cleveland and KC are all non-obvious intriguing options this week given their opponents tendency to make mistakes-

Sit Ems-
Carolina- Last week's start is this week's bench candidate. Atlanta continues to play mistake free football and should limit Carolina's opportunities for defensive points.

Week 11 Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Nov 13 2008, 04:02 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Last Chance week. With the first non-bye week upon us in nearly two months, teams are looking to make that last move towards a LCG berth, looking to hold onto a LCG berth, or just looking towards next year. This week looks like rivalry week with match-ups like Jets vs. Pats, Bears vs. GB and 'Boys vs. Skins on tap.

Fantasy wise, teams needing big weeks should swing for the fences with high upside potential players. Teams with ~50pt leads in their leagues should take a safer approach and not try to make decisions more difficult than they need to be. This week's start em sit ems will include only 1 start and sit at each position (unless indicated) given the limited number of true sleepers at each position at this point in the season.

QB
Start Ems-
Trent Edwards- Edwards has struggled in recent weeks but could get healthy with a huge game vs. the Browns. The Bills struggle when defenses blitz then but the O Line should hold off the Browns and give Edwards time to attack deep.

Sit Ems-
Brett Favre- As a huge Jet fan on the eve of a big game, I'm hoping to be wrong with this prediction. But given the forecast for a wet, dreary evening, both teams may be forced to grind it out and cut back on the big plays. This may favor the Jets given how tough they've been vs. the run but makes Favre a start if both teams try to focus on the run.

RB
Start Ems-
Kevin Faulk- Edited to reflect the fact that Zman made a prediction on Faulks upside as I was working on my projections. Look for Cassell to be limited given the weather conditions and be forced into checking down to Faulk who will be on the field in all passing situations rather than Green-Ellis. The Jets also stuff the run between the tackles making Green-Ellis less likely to be effective.

Sit Ems-
LenDale White- I believe this is the week the Titans finally lose a game. White and Chris Johnson have been quite an tandem thus far but White was held in check by the Jags in their 1st meeting. If kept out of the endzone, White will struggle to get 5pts.

WR
Start Ems-
Mark Bradley- Shame on me for picking him up last week and NOT starting him. Wow, he looked good against the Chargers. Formerly a highly touted receiver for the Bears, Bradley disappeared after numerous injuries. But he looks healthy now and is a nice compliment to Dwayne Bowe.

Issac Bruce- With Morgan out and the 49ers on the improve thanks to a hungry coach, Bruce could get a decent number of looks this week. He is surely fired up playing his former team. And since the Rams cannot stop anybody, Bruce could be a sneaky play.

Sit Ems-
Plaxico Burress- Yes he is finding a way to get an occasional TD but Burress has done nothing substantial since pre suspension. The Giants continue to find various ways to win but they should struggle a bit on offense vs. the Ravens.

TE
Start Ems-
Keller,Olson- Sticking with old reliable here..Not much in the way of TE surprises at this point in the season.

Sit Ems-
Kevin Boss- Still a borderline starter but should be limited (like Burress) vs. the Ravens.

Def-
Start Ems-
Carolina, TB- Carolina is a non-brainer vs. the Lions. Tampa plays Minnesota which has been assaulted by Chicago and Green Bay in recent weeks.

Sit Ems-
Tennessee- Look for the Jags to play smart and safe vs. the Titans limited their potential for a big defensive day.

Week 10 Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Nov 6 2008, 02:29 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Week 10 brings us our first Thursday night game of the year with a battle of two teams coming off tough losses. Brady Quinn makes his first start at QB for the Browns, taking over for Derek Anderson. He faces a Broncos defense that continues to get shredded weekly. The Broncos, who looked to be a super bowl contender early on, have a depleted back- field to complement their defensive woes. Rookie Ryan Torain may be asked to carry the load with Selvin Young still nicked up.

The Skins, Cowboys, Bucs and Bengals are all off and complete the final bye week. There are many big games this week with playoff implications. Buffalo/NE, Tenn/Chicago, NO/Atlanta, GB/Minn, Indy/Pitt, and NYG/Phily are all exciting games. Even the Monday night battle between San Fran and Arizona will be exciting. The game features arguably the best fantasy back in the league, Frank Gore against the most explosive passing offense led by Kurt Warner. Factor in new fantasy star, Tim Hightower and you have a game that will draw lots of attention from fantasy fans battling for a playoff spot.

This weeks start em, sit ems:

QB-

Start Em-
Matt Ryan- Ryan continues to get better every week. I am always leery of starting a rookie QB under any circumstances but Ryan has proved he's not just any rookie, leading the Falcons to a surprise 5-3 record. This game figures to light up the scoreboard and as such Ryan should be good for 220yards and a few TDs.

Gus Frerotte- I'm riding this old guy until he proves me wrong. He continues to ride the bench for many teams, yet he continues to outperform most NFL QBs. Tavaris Jackson missed an open Berrian many times in week 1 vs the Packers and Frerotte wont make that same mistake.

Sit Em-
Eli Manning/Peyton Manning- This week features a lot of quarterback friendly match-ups. But I see both Manning's struggling in their visits to Pennsylvania. Both QBs figure to face a huge pass rush from their respective opponents. Given the high intensity in both games, they may post decent stats but I'd start either of the above options over the Manning bros.
RB-

Start Em-
DeAngelo Williams- On paper, this looks like it could be a huge game for Williams..Jonathan Stewart has missed practice all week, the offensive line is healthy and the Panthers face the lowly Raiders. Start Williams and all Panthers with confidence.

Jamaal Charles- I truly believe Charles is the best back on the Cheifs right now. With Larry Johnson supposedly coming back next week, Charles gets another chance to show what he can do. He is on the road and the Chiefs may look to exploit the Chargers weak secondary but Charles should still get a respectable amount of touches. He's looked like a star in his limited opportunities.

Sit Em-
Any Ram running-back- Since when did the Jets become such a dominant run stopping team? It doesn't matter if it's Steven Jackson, Sam Gado, or this week's hot waiver wire pick Kenneth Darby, they will all struggle. Look for the Jets to get a lead and force the Rams to pass the entire 2nd half.

WR-

Start Em-
Vincent Jackson- Jackson could be poised for a huge finish to the year. The Chargers will be in a must win situation weekly and should be looking for big plays coming off their bye week. With LT healthy again, teams will have to game-plan against him, leaving more opportunities for Rivers to connect with Jackson when he's facing 1-1 coverage.

Sidney Rice - Big time outside the box pick this week. Rice has been sidelined nearly the entire year. Frerotte has developed a nice rapport with Berrian but its Rice who may find himself open quite a bit sunday. If you are thin at WR and are looking to take a shot with someone, Rice is your guy.

Sit Em-
Marvin Harrison- I think it's time to come to grips that Harrison is not his former self. Some owners are still plugging him in weekly thinking he is still capable of a big game. He does have 3TDs this year but is clearly the fourth option now. Factor in a tough match-up vs. the Steelers and it's a no brainer to bench the marvelous one.

TE-

Start Em-
Dustin Keller- The Jets continue to look more comfortable on offense. Keller has seen an increased role in the offense over the past month and may have taken over for Chris Baker. In a game where the Jets should be finding the endzone often, Keller's got a shot at a TD and 4 or 5 catches.

Sit Em-
LJ Smith-- Smith is scheduled to start and reclaim his role from Brent Celek. Problem is Celek looked so good that Andy Reid has no choice but to keep him on the field. Bench Smith with the expectation Celek will be more involved in the offense.

Defense-

Start Em-
Arizona- Home on Monday night against an inexperienced QB. The 49ers were already vulnerable to mistakes so look for the Cards to come after Shaun Hill.

Sit Em-
Green Bay- Another repeat of last week. Green Bay's D has been explosive in terms of fantasy points this year but look for them to struggle for the 2nd week in a row.

Week 9 Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 31 2008, 10:21 AM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

With just another standard four team bye week upon us, you would think this is just any other week for owners. But look closer. Three top 10 fantasy quarterbacks and four top running backs are out this week. Factor in key missing wide receiver/tight ends like Lance Moore, Marques Colston, Antonio Gates and Steve Smith and you have many thin rosters this week.

These are the weeks that the best fantasy players thrive on. Waiver wire options are limited but previously built roster depth becomes essential. With just three weeks left in the fantasy regular season, many teams face 'must-win' scenarios.

This week, all of the start em suggestions are players that were drafted in the 8th round or later in most leagues. Many are players that have struggled much of the year yet present interesting upside this week. Obvious starts like Kyle Orton vs. the Lions or Donnie Avery vs. the Cardinals will not be on the list. Start those guys if you are fortunate to have them.

QB-

Start Em-
Marc Bulger- We may never know why the Rams didn't excel under Scott Linehan's leadership. But clearly the Rams are a different team with Jim Haslett running the show. Bulger and his new deep threat Donnie Avery have clicked and even with a banged up Steven Jackson, the Rams can move the ball. Look for a passing shootout in St. Louis with Bulger facing his former teammate Kurt Warner.

Gus Frerotte- Teams continue to gameplan against Adrian Peterson which only helps Frerotte find passing lanes to his big play weapon Bernard Berrian. Coming off a bye week, look for the Vikings to show some trickery on Halloween weekend.

Sit Em-
Jeff Garcia- Not a shocker pick here except for the fact that Garcia's Bucs face the lowly KC Chiefs this week. The Chiefs cannot stop the run but are serviceable against the pass. Despite the apparent strong match-up, I expect Garcia to struggle on the road here.

RB-

Start Em-
Justin Fargas- Fargas was off to a nice start this year before a groin injury sidelined him for a few weeks. Then a few tough match-ups added to the disappointing year to date stats. With the Raider backfield depleted, Fargas has a chance to carry the load vs. an exploitable Falcon run D.

Derrick Ward/Tim Hightower- On a week where many key RBs are either hurt or on bye, these two back-ups present themselves as nice bye-week fill-ins. Ward has been getting more touches in recent weeks and rumor has it that Hightower may take over for Edge as the starting RB in Arizona. Temper expectations, but either guy could have a nice week.

Sit Em-
Thomas Jones- Last week's start em is this week's sit em. Jones has had a nice three week stretch, gaining yards and cracking the end zone three times. But as Leon Washington continues to make plays, he's going to get more touches. I see Jones struggling between the tackles vs. the Bills.

WR-

Start Em-
Anthony Gonzalez- The Patriots have looked very vulnerable to the pass, especially against their opponents 2nd and 3rd options. Gonzalez still has to share looks with Wayne, Harrison and Clark but he does make the most of his opportunities. 80yrd and a TD is likely this week.

Bobby Engram - Expect the Eagles to unleash a relentless blitz vs. Seattle. Seneca Wallace will struggle and will be forced to make short passes. Engram will be in the slot and be a frequent check down target. Even with only three catches last week, he was targeted 8 times. Look for that trend to continue this week.

Sit Em-
Donald Driver/Greg Jennings- Is Tennessee really 7-0? Chris Johnson and LenDale White are the only real offensive fantasy options. Tennessee's strength is its defense and its ability to shut down the pass. Expect Aaron Rodgers to struggle finding his favorite two options much like Peyton Manning did last Monday night.

TE-

Start Em-
Greg Olsen- This may be the last week for Olsen to be considered a non obvious start. Each week he becomes more of an option for Kyle Orton. It doesn't get any better than facing the Lions secondary so expect big things from Olsen.

Sit Em-
Kellen Winslow-- Something is just not right with the Winslow saga. Suspensions, mysterious illnesses etc. He is a great talent but I don't want him in my lineup until I'm assured he's back to normal.
Defense-

Start Em-
Arizona/St.Louis- This game can very well be a shootout but both QBs will be facing blitz heavy game plans from their opponents..Expect big plays through the air on both sides, but also lots of sacks and turnovers.

Sit Em-
Green Bay- The Packers are one of the higher scoring fantasy defenses thus far. However, they face a Titans team that just doesn't make a lot of mistakes. They run the ball and keep opposing defenses from making big plays. The Packers D should not be started this week.

Good luck everyone and Happy Halloween!

Week 8 Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 24 2008, 12:17 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Feels like just yesterday we were drafting our WCOFF main event teams all across the country. Yet here we are two months into the season with only four weeks left in our regular season. At this point of the season, weekly decisions take on increased meaning. For teams perched atop their respective standings, conservative decision making is often prudent. However, if you are facing a large but not insurmountable point deficit, agressive up-side plays are your the best option for gaining quick ground..

This weeks NFL schedule offers up some interesting upside options. Take a look at traditional back-ups or a teams 3rd option that are facing teams like Detroit and Kansas City.

QB-

Start Em-
Trent Edwards- I'm still not a believer in the Bills as a threat in the AFC but I am impressed with how they move the ball on offense. Lee Evans has had his best games in Miami which can only help Edwards have a big day.

Matt Schaub- Don't look now but the Texans have averaged 28 points over their last four games. Schaub has quieted all the chatter about him losing his job with two consecutive wins. With the best WR in football at his disposal, look for another big week vs. the Bengals.

Sit Em-
Eli Manning- I've gone back and forth on Manning a few times over the past few years. He really showed me something with last year's Super Bowl run, but I just continue to be unimpressed. If Burress plays, he may connect on a TD, but I expect Manning to struggle moving the ball all day vs. the Steelers.

RB-

Start Em-
Thomas Jones/Leon Washington- Jones is a fairly obvious start but it's Washington that's one of those sneaky plays this week that could pay dividends. KC was run over by Chris Johnson and BigBoy Lendale White. If White can break away for an 80 yard run, how will they catch Washington?

Kevin Faulk/ Ben Jarvus Green-Ellis- Both of these guys figure to get their fair share of touches vs the Rams. Faulk clearly knows the offense well and is likely to be very active in the passing game. Green-Ellis earned playing time by looking strong last week. I like Faulk more but both could very well post 10+.

Sit Em-
Brandon Jacobs- Despite only getting 15 touches per week, Jacobs has been a stud, finding the end zone weekly. This week however, he is running into a stout defense and will struggle to move the ball between the 20s, let alone find the endzone. Hard to figure Jacobs doing much this week.

WR-

Start Em-
Vincent Jackson- Every WR1 picks apart the Saints these days. With Chambers still banged up, Jackson continues to be the big play threat for the Chargers and should have a huge day.

Josh Morgan - This play is contingent on Morgan practicing friday. There has been lots of turmoil in San Fran land but one thing was clear last week: Josh Morgan was the main weapon in the passing game. Morgan is available on most waiver wires and should be picked up.
(Alternate play if Morgan is inactive>>Nate Washington

Sit Em-
Terrell Owens - Will this be the week that Terrell loses it. Things have crumbled quickly in Dallas with no immediate sign for recovery. He was struggling before Romo got hurt and now with the rusty Brad Johnson running the show, Owens is a WR3 at best.

TE-

Start Em-
John Carlson- Receiving options are slim pickins in Seattle these days. However, Carlson has been consistent and figures to get some looks particularly in the red zone.

Sit Em-
Anthony Fasano-- Repeat of last week. Most startable TE's appear to have strong match-ups. Owners should consider keeping Fasano on the bench given David Martin's resurgence into the offensive game plan.

Defense-

Start Em-
San Francisco/Seattle- These two teams face off in San Francisco. Both teams are prone to turnovers. Neither defense is particularly strong but could potentially post a big number if the game becomes sloppy. Also sticking with the Jets as a solid play this week.

Sit Em-
NY Giants- Despite putting up big numbers vs. the 49ers, I continue to believe the Giants are a weak play against decent teams on the road. I don't expect the D to be shutout like they were vs. the Browns, but I do anticipate very few points.

Week 7 recap

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 21 2008, 04:43 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Another wacky week but what else is new? The Cowboys and Broncos look terrible..which means they both will be world beaters within a few weeks..The only thing consistent this year is inconsistency. That is unless you count everyone's consistent dismissal of Selvin Young's tremendous ability...Need him to get healthy and show the world what I am talking about. However, I can wait until next year if need be.

Brett Favre- In short, Favre stunk up the joint. Two piks, three sacks, less than 200 yards and no touchdowns. Favre has been either really good or bad this year. Not one of his finer weeks.
Grade- F

Jake Delhomme- As expected, Jake the Snake got going with his buddy #89. Smith shredded the Saints secondary for his best game of the year and accounted for much of Delhommes stats. Very solid start.
Grade- B+

Sit Em-
Derek Anderson- This one was pretty easy. I just dont think Anderson is any good. With the exception of perhaps the Denver game in a few weeks, he may not have another startable game all year..that is if he even keeps his job. Looking good on national TV vs. the Giants has distorted the reality that Anderson is very overrated.
Grade- A

RB-

Start Em-
Dominic Rhodes/Jamaal Charles- Rhodes was solid, posting one of the higher RB totals of the week, with two TDs, four receptions and lots of touches. Charles' stat line was impressive given that he only had 7 touches.
Grade B+

Steve Slaton- Slaton had another solid week. Total stats were somewhat compromised by the fact that he split with Ahman Green but still 18 points is respectable.
Grade- B+

Sit Em-
Ronnie Brown- Brown was held to 4 points, much less than even what I had anticipated. It was an obvious tough match-up but kudos to all who took my advice and sat the all-mighty Brown.
Grade- A++

WR-

Start Em-
Torry Holt- Who knew that the Rams would build up a huge lead and ride Steven Jackson..The Rams had their way with the Boy's D and Holt could of had a huge week had the game remained close. In theory, the breakout week could of happened but in the end, 8 points is not good enough.
Grade- C

Chad Johnson - Despite his longest catch being 9 yards, he had a darn good fantasy week, posting his first TD of the year. Expect Johnson's stats to be more like this especially when Palmer comes back. Welcome back to fantasy land Ocho Cinco!!
Grade- A-

Sit Em-
Braylon Edwards - Victim of having a below average quarterback. ~10 point weeks will be the norm for Edwards for the remainder of the season.
Grade- A

TE-

Start Em-
Robert Royal- Not so bad. Royal was active in the first half, posting all his stats. 9 points is reasonable for a TE bye week replacement.
Grade- B

Heath Miller- Dissapointing week. Was targeted fairly often but just didn't post the stats you want. The Steelers relied on the resurrected Melwelde Moore.
Grade- D

Sit Em-
Anthony Fasano-- David Martin was utilized more as the TE1 than Fasano. Fasano only posted two catches.
Grade- A-

Defense-

Start Em-
NY Jets, Tampa Bay, Miami- All three defenses came up short fantasy wise. The Jets and Bucs held their opposing offenses to limited yards and points but didn't force many turnovers or sacks.
Grade- C-

Sit Em-
Green Bay, New England- Oops. Green Bay returned two Peyton Manning INTs for TDs and New England forced Denver into committing many turnovers. The old rule of starting defenses hosting nationally hyped games remains in tact.

Week 7 Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 16 2008, 04:31 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

A little early this week, prior to the waiver wire deadline....

QB-

Start Em-
Brett Favre- Dare we say it. The Jets are for real. Favre is getting more comfortable week by week. He also returns to a stadium where he surely remembers his last visit. He torced the Raiders on a memorable Monday night just a day after his father passed away. He had a QB rating of 155 that night. A repeat performance would not be surprising.

Jake Delhomme- Delhomme will have an easier time moving the ball than he did last week in Tampa. Jake and Steve Smith have yet to put together one of their stellar combo weeks, but this could be it. The Saints have not been able to stop big WR threats all year.

Sit Em-
Derek Anderson- Despite Washington's shocking loss to the Rams, their passing D was still strong. And I'm not buying Anderson's suddenly rising value. He picked apart an overrated Giants D on Monday Night. Back to normal for Anderson this week. Less than 200 yards and a few INTS..

RB-

Start Em-
Dominic Rhodes/Jamaal Charles- Two guys that have tough matchups but also figure to carry a heavy load and thus command many touches. Both suddenly find themselves in a starting role due to various factors involving their starters. If you have these guys stashed away on the bench, dust em off and give em a start.

Steve Slaton- Slaton was not much of a factor in the Texans comeback vs. the Dolphins last week. Look for Houston to attack the porous Lions all over the field but committ more to the run than last week. The Lions will focus on their pass D due to Schaub's big week last week and being picked apart by Gus Frerotte. Slaton could be set up for his best game of his short career.

Sit Em-
Ronnie Brown- Tough to sit this guy given his current stardom but this is the week he returns to earth. The Ravens are nasty vs. the run. That 4.7 avg is going to take a hit this week.

WR-

Start Em-
Torry Holt- Is this the week he and the Ram offense wake up? Just a little? Holt seems to excel better at home and the Rams continue to get him more looks in the slot. Confidence from last week's win, the Cowboys reeling and sheer talent all point to a breakout week. Holt owners can only hope.

Chad Johnson - Yes. Really. Another underperforming veteran. Say what you want about the Bengals but they really have been competitive against some good teams. Ocho Cinco is starting to show signs and will be fired up against the hated Steelers. With Housh nicked up, Johnson could be the focal point this week.

Sit Em-
Braylon Edwards - See above regarding Derek Anderson. Monday Night was a fluke. This connection will struggle vs. the Skins.

TE-

Start Em-
Robert Royal- Sticking with the 'Chargers can't stop tight ends one more week', Royal should get some frequent looks and post decent stats as a bye week fill in.

Heath Miller- Has been more active in the offensive game plan as the season's progressed. With Parker possibly out again, expect more short passes on the line of scrimmage not to mention the Bengals have given up big plays to TE's all year.

Sit Em-
Anthony Fasano-- Has started to slow down a bit as teams take notice of him as a weapon. He faces the tough Ravens so expect the trend to continue.

Defense-

Start Em-
NY Jets, Tampa Bay, Miami- All have great match-ups this week and are worthy bye week fill ins with three leading defenses off this week.

Sit Em-
Green Bay, New England- Both teams are home for national games. Normally that creates a good defense start scenario. Both squads are struggling defensively and will be lit up by the tough offenses they are facing.

Week 6 recap

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 14 2008, 01:26 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Week 6 was filled with a usual mix of surprises, last second finishes and injuries. Just when you think you know the game, you dont. The Redskins beat Dallas and Philadelphia on the road back to back weeks and then come home and lose to the Rams who lost their first four games by an average of nearly 30 points per game. An obvious bounce game, yes. But to lose, wow.

Let's take a look at last week's start em sit ems..

QB-

Start Em-
Jason Campbell- Not what we were looking for. Would of been a decent game had he stuck it in the endzone a few times but 12 points against the Rams does not cut it.
Grade C

Gus Frerotte- Since when are the Vikings a balanced team? 31 runs and 33 passes vs. the Lions. Frerotte delivered posting 300 yards and 1 TD. Maximized production for a team that squeaked by 12-10.
Grade B+

Sit Em-
Philip Rivers- I guess it's safe to say that the Patriots stink. Rivers spread the ball well without use of his top receiver and picked apart the Pats secondary with ease.
Grade F

RB-

Start Em-
Julius Jones- Green Bay dominated time of possession and led most of the 2nd half limiting Jones' touches. Seattle had the plan to ride Jones, running 18 of their first 24 plays. Jones' stats would have been much more impressive had a 50 yard not been called back.
Grade D

Michael Pittman- Solid game from Pittman. 100+ yards and three catches thrown in. He failed to break the goaline, his specialty over the first quarter of the season. But still was a solid fill in for those in need of bye week help.
Grade B+

Sit Em-
Earnest Graham- He did have a few long catches and snuck in a garbage time TD but his rushing stats were 5/11. He was used as a lead blocker for Warrick Dunn much of the day. 5/11 is not what you want from your RB2.
Grade B

WR-

Start Em-
Brandon Stokley- Was well on his way to an A+ game. He posted 12 points in the first half, including a TD before leaving with a concussion. He still ended up posting enough points to be considered a solid fill in.
Grade B

Greg Camarillo - Led the team with four receptions but wasn't part of any of the big plays. Those instead went to Patrick Cobbs. It's clear that Camarillo is the most consistent receiver on the Fins but we are still waiting for that big breakout game.
Grade C

Sit Em-
Marques Colston - Colston ended up being a late scratch on Sunday. Clearly he just wasn't ready. As it turns out, the Saints had no problem overpowering the Raiders.
Grade A/ Incomplete

TE-

Start Em-
Greg Olson- Olson did what a mid tier TE is supposed to do..7 points and a half dozen targets. He is clearly an option on this offense and certainly a weekly starter if you dont have any of the top TEs.
Grade B-

Ben Watson- Nothing. Nodda. Zilch. Please don't start him ever again. Come to think of it, nobody other than Wes Welker looks startable on this team right now.
Grade F

Sit Em-
Todd Heap/Vernon Davis-- Mike Martz finally decided to utilize the talented Vernon Davis. The Eagles struggle in covering the middle of the field given that they pressure the QB up the middle. Heap did nothing but what else is new...
Grade B-

Defense-

Start Em-
NY Jets- 5 sacks, 1 forced turnover and a half dozen kick/punt returns that nearly went the distance. Leon Washington looks to take it to the house on every return. Reminds me of Dante Hall in his prime.
Grade B+

Philadelphia Eagles- Helped by a late TD return, the Eagles posted 15 fantasy points. Oustanding for a defense. Philadelphia continues to be one of the better fantasy defenses around.
Grade A

Sit Em-
NY Giants- Saving the best for last. The Giants D put up a goose egg last night. No sacks or turnovers. Clearly they are not as good as advertised and the Browns aren't as bad as they've looked. Nice to see the real Braylon Edwards again.
Grade A+

Week Six- WCOFF Start Em Sit Ems

Posted by AndreJohnsonsCalfFanClub, Oct 10 2008, 07:01 PM in WCOFF- Start Em Sit Em's

Buffalo, Tennessee, Pittsburgh and Kansas City are on bye-- not exactly the most proficient offenses around. Yet with four teams off and injuries continuing to mount, team owners are scrambling to fill starting line-up voids.

Starting this week, I will offer up a variety of weekly predictions. Two non-stud start em's poised from a breakout week along with one sit em for a player traditionally in starting line-ups that I suggest you send to the pine.

For purposes of keeping score we'll use 10 points as a measure for most players as to whether or not it was a good start or sit. Expectations are for a little more from QB RB WR and a little less for Defenses and TE. I wont be predicting kickers or IDP.

I want this to be interactive. Tell me you like the picks or tell me I'm an idiot. Comment on where I'm gonna be right or wrong. I'll be keeping score each week so let's see what happens.

QB-

Start Em-
Jason Campbell- The only concern here is Washington getting out to a huge lead and then riding Portis in the 2nd half. The Rams defense is pitiful so if they worked out some of their offensive issues during the bye week, and keep the game relatively close, Campbell could have his best game as a pro.

Gus Frerotte- Never a sexy pick, but he is playing against Detroit. I expect Peterson to be the focus after a few down weeks but look for Frerotte to sneak in a few TDs and 200yards.

Sit Em-
Philip Rivers- Rivers has lot working against him this week. New England is going to be hungry to play well on the national stage plus a few of River's weapons are banging up; Chambers and Jackson. If you have another reasonable option, take a shot and sit Rivers.

RB-

Start Em-
Julius Jones- There's not much to like about Seattle right now but they are home and Green Bay cannot stop the run. Seattle will ride Julius 25+ times Sunday. Look for a score and 100 total yards.

Michael Pittman- A bitter sweet prediction coming from the biggest Selvin Young fan around. What is wrong Mike Shanahan to never give Selvin a chance at stardom?? Regardless, Jacksonville's defense is overrated and Denver will be without their star TE. Look for more dump off passes out of the backfield which suits Pittman more than Hall. Already the goal line back, Pittman has some serious upside potential this week.

Sit Em-
Earnest Graham- This is the week Graham doesn't get that one stat padding breakout run. I'm a firm believer that Graham's cumulative stats are an illusion this year. I'm thinking 20/40 for a weak 2.0 average is likely.

WR-

Start Em-
Brandon Stokley- Another Denver role player pick. Even if Royal plays, he wont be 100%. As Pittsburgh showed last week, Jax is susceptible to three WR packages. Look for Cutler to lean on Stokley early and often. Marshall will get his but so will Stokley.

Greg Camarillo - I love this guy. Problem is the teams I have him on are so deep at WR. Still, he's 10 points in the bag every week with upside. As teams start to realize Ronnie Brown is for real, they'll start to game plan against him and open up the passing lanes. Start Camarillo with confidence.

Sit Em-
Marques Colston - Even if he plays, I cannot see him being the focal point of the offense given his limited practice. I think he's a week or two away from being a must-start.

TE-

Start Em-
Greg Olson- Olson continues to gain the confidence of his teammates. He had a few key fumbles early in the year but has received both red-zone and deep seam targets in recent weeks. One more solid week and he will become a weekly must start.

Ben Watson- Breakout or wake-up week potential. San Diego struggles in stopping TE's and Watson saw increased targets last week. Take a flier on Watson if your options are limited.

Sit Em-
Todd Heap/Vernon Davis-- These two remind me of my favorite line from A Bronx Tale---'There's nothing worse than wasted talent'. Both seem to be used as blockers more than anything else. I want to see points before they can be relied upon.

Defense-

Start Em-
NY Jets- Probably the most underrated fantasy defense that can be found on many waiver wires. PPG data is skewed by the Monday Night Charger game and garbage time vs. Arizona. Should eat up a banged up mistake prone Bengal team.

Philadelphia Eagles- Just a hungry defense. With Westbrook out again, the team is going to look for points from their defense. San Francisco has had trouble protecting O'Sullivan and can be forced into making mistakes.

Sit Em-
NY Giants- The Giants have feasted on an easy schedule in recent weeks. But I think there are some weaknesses underlying in what's considered the best team in football, and those weaknesses are on defense. Look for the Giants D to be less than stellar in the Dog Pound monday night.
