Re-United Sleepers

It has been a while since we have written on this blog so figured we would catch up. After an ok season, 3rd place finish for Tim B, Top 3 Post Season Challenge for Tim D we decided that we are best together…so we are reunited with 2 teams…reunited and it……...you know the words to the song.

Anyway, that makes me think about another great way to find sleepers. Last year we talked about a couple of key ways to spot sleepers. You can read the full article by going to: http://www.wcofs.com/site/tnt/article/timdaneau/sleeper however our main guidelines were:
1) Do they fit the coaches system?
2) Did their team show signs in the off-season to make him/or his position a priority.
3) Why has he not done well in the past or has he?
4) What is their minimum role vs. maximum role?
5) What is his role in training camp/preseason?
Another great way which fits with the above criteria is finding guys who have been successful with coaches, teammates..etc. Going back to reunited theme, there are a few players we are keeping a close eye on this preseason that have been reunited with people they have had success with. Here are a couple.

Earl Bennett – Chicago Bears
Re-united with QB Jay Cutler

Earl Bennett is a great sleeper. He was a third round draft pick in 2008. He was side lined all of his rookie year. This year he is being given an opportunity to win a starting job, and given the fact as a rookie at Vanderbilt he posted 79 Catches for 876yds and 9TDs it is safe to say he and Cutler have some past chemistry. With no real competition and the past success, Bennett is someone we will be keeping a close eye on.

DJ Hackett – WR Washington Redskins
Re-United with Jim Zorn

DJ Hackett, showed great potential with the Seahawks under Zorn. Though he couldn’t stay healthy (a problem that followed in Carolina) when he played he put up good numbers. In his last season under Zorn he averaged over 5 catches per game, 64yds and .5 TDs. (Basically 14.4pts per week average.) It was no surprise Zorn scooped him after being cut. Though he is not even a sure thing to make the team he is already impressing during scrimmages. Keep an eye out for him this season as it is a great offense for him and IF he can stay healthily and IF he makes the team, he may make a great deep sleeper.
